    The Dedicated Servers

In 2004, three friends met to create a birthday song for a mutual friend. What resulted was a horrible song, and a newfound love and interest for creating music.

The Dedicated Servers are MCMD, peanut, and HAV!. They command every venue they enter, reciting their anomalous musical compositions that combine the lyrics of MCMD and peanut with the production of HAV!. The three friends come from hugely different musical backgrounds, which make for a very interesting output of music. They all have different musical tastes, which when fused, makes for a one-of-a-kind sound.

The origins of the Dedicated Servers and its members lie in Boise, Idaho, where they hope their sound can inspire and influence individuals to not only open their minds to the vast universe of music, but also to better themselves as human beings. In a world where music is such a powerful tool, Dedicated Servers want to show people that anything is possible, as long as there is fun to be had and lessons to be learned, for the artists and for the people. They have been making music since 2004 but have only begun to introduce the world to their music. In 2007, they gained slight internet fame when their hit song “Hall of Famers” caught the attention of video gamers worldwide when it was posted on a popular gaming site, screwattack.com. The Dedicated Servers have been fortunate to grace the local stages of Boise, including Neurolux, The Reef, Fork (formerly Bad Irish), Bouquet, Liquid, The Venue, The Yacht Club, The Linen Building, Knitting Factory, and Taco Bell Arena. Th ey aspire to continue performing so that they may eventually grace the grandest stages of the world. The group has opened for numerous musicians, including Pigeon John, Bone Thugs N Harmony, and Lupe Fiasco.

The Dedicated Servers have been compared to A Tribe Called Quest, Atmosphere, Kanye West, Clipse, Linkin Park, Eminem, Atom & his Package, MC Chris, Postal Service, Nujabes, and Depeche Mode. You might be thinking these comparisons don’t make sense, which is what makes Dedicated Servers a cut above the rest. Blurring the boundaries of music and challenging genres, they are ready to show the world that through music and a love for life as well as oneself, dreams are achievable through hard work and dedication.

    The Very Most

The Very Most is an indie-pop band from Boise, Idaho founded by Jeremy Jensen in 2002. Like almost every band, they exist both live and on record. But for the Very Most, the process of recording happens over years, as Jeremy, with an assembled cast of talented friends, carefully constructs layers upon layers of guitar, bass, drums, strings, percussion, woodwinds, synths, vocals and sound effects in a backyard studio. They’ve gone through many personnel changes and formats, but currently they’re a five piece, with Zach Von House on bass and vocals, Jake Hite on drums, Gia Trotter playing keyboards and vocals, and Clint Vickery on guitar, keyboards, and percussion. They take their show on the road in small doses, playing shows in Portland, Spokane, Salt Lake City and various points in between. They’ve also played shows with such bands as the Halo-Benders, The Microphones, and Thanksgiving. Their music is dense, catchy, and has a decidedly un-hip, yet slightly off-kilter, lyrical viewpoint. It’s kind of a like being the only adult at a little kids’ dance party where you get to choose the music, but the kids make you spin them around until everyone’s really dizzy. Influences include Beach Boys, Built to Spill, Smiths, and Belle and Sebastian. Congratulations Forever is the second record by The Very Most, and expands greatly on the previous album, Making the Case For Me. Congratulations Forever is released by Coming in Second records in the US and Universal Records in the Philippines. In 2009, they embarked on an ambitious recording project: “A Year With The Very Most”, where they will be recording an EP every three months. These EPs will be themed after the seasons of the year. This project is being released by Indiecater Records in Dublin, Ireland.

    Rebecca Scott

Rebecca Scott has been performing her unique brand of folk-rock in the Northwest for over 19 years. For the seventh straight year, Rebecca was named Best Singer for 2011 in the Boise Weekly’s coveted Best of Boise Readers’ Choice Awards. And for eight years running, she was also voted in the top three for Best Local Musician (winning in 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2005 & 2004), and earned 2nd place for Best Band behind national act Built To Spill. In December of 2003, Rebecca was named the top “Mover & Shaker” in Boise entertainment by the Idaho Statesman’s Thrive Magazine. Her fourth release, Can’t Get It Out Of My Head (2003), is a live compilation of her previously recorded original material plus two new cuts.

She’s recorded three all-original studio albums.
The first album, Wave To The Elephants, received national attention when the song Diggin’ a Path was used in an MTV movie soundtrack “The Anatomy Of A Hate Crime: The Matthew Sheppard Story” as well as the television show “Good vs. Evil”. Her second album, United, was acclaimed when Billboard Magazine named her one in six of the country’s top unsigned bands of 1999. The third release, The Game, was Rebecca’s first self-produced endeavor, completed at Little House Recordings with Ben Burdick. Her fourth release, Can’t Get It Out Of My Head (2003), is a live compilation of her previously recorded original material plus two new cuts. And last but not least, her 2010 CD, By Request, features cover songs that have been requested the most by her audiences.

During her musical career, Rebecca has had the opportunity to perform with Candy Coburn, Jonatha Brooke, Shawn Colvin, and with Dar Williams and other artists at Lilith Fair and other NW music festivals. The band recently shared billing with Keb Mo, Cowboy Junkies, Dishwalla, Shelby Lynne, Curtis Stigers, Melissa Ferrick and Garrison Starr.

Composer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Thomas Paul is adept in a diverse range of genres including swing, funk, country, bluegrass, lounge jazz, blues, psychedelic rock and bedroom indie-folk. Thomas joined his first band at age fourteen and since then has lent his talents to over three-dozen bands and music projects, including Bill Coffey Big Band, Mystery Date, HillFolk Noir and Clock. Cellar Notes recently dubbed him “one of the premier performers in the Northwest.” Paul has often shared the stage with notables Curtis Stigers, Ned Evett, Nick Jaina, Jonah Shue, JD Kindle and several other Northwest luminaries as well as a number of music giants such as John Hammond and Teddy Thompson. Though he enjoys the role of sideman, he is moreover an independent artist. Numerous full band and solo sets pack his schedule at music hot spots throughout the Boise region and nationwide. He mixes and matches instruments between vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard, mandolin and ac cordion both in live performances and his albums Goodbye Waterloo… and House on Fire. Thomas has played everything from garage rock to lounge blues to folk and, according to Michael Deeds has “been in more Boise bands than any sane musician should, and he plays essentially any instrument with strings or keys plopped in front of him.”

    RevoltRevolt

RevoltRevolt began in August of 2007. Christopher Böck (guitar/vox), was showcasing material from his solo project, and was striving for something more sonically loaded. Something without limits. ReVoLtReVoLt. Chris invited Jason Serna to play drums, and Bass player Ben Brunn (Nevada Bachelors), joined the line up a year later in 2008.

The band was successful in the Northwest and garnered reviews that gave comparisons such notable acts as Sonic Youth, Flaming Lips, Dinosaur Jr, Jesus Mary Chain, and The Cure. Friend Jack Endino invited the band to his studio in Seattle, and while hanging out said, “You guys sounded kinda like the Pixies, but you don’t sound just like the Pixies…and I mean that as a good thing” The band pressed forward playing shows all of 2008 looking for the right studio to capture their live sound.

RevoltRevolt’s debut album “Chordata” did just that (released November 17, 2009-Spark and Shine). The record was comprised of 12 songs recorded at Egg Studios (Seattle, Wa) with Conrad Uno. The band traveled the United States tenaciously throughout 2009 and 2010 in support.

In the months of Sept/Oct/Nov 2010, ®® blasted out a 43 date National Tour of the United States with Idaho friends Built to Spill. Great reviews followed, and ®® was stoked to have the opportunity to share their music with BTS fans.

Following the tour, ®® set their sights on EGG Studios with Conrad Uno at the helm again for album #2. Sessions at EGG ran from June 22-25 of 2011, and the new album consisting of 8 tracks is set to be released in Spring of 2012.

Shortly after the recordings, ReVoLtReVoLt sweated out a 4 week Summer Tour of the United States that ran July-August.

Guitar player Ralph Mugot recently joined the band in November, providing a richer live sound, and new energy to the band.

Northwest dates are wrapping up for Fall 2011, and in 2012 RevoltRevolt will head to SXSW music festival as part of a 4 week tour of the states.

    a.k.a. Belle

Nicknamed ’Americana Sweethearts’ by weekly local arts & culture rag, The Boise Weekly, a.k.a. Belle are also commonly referred to as Boise’s ”Indie – Alt – Country Darlings” — certainly there is an edge to their Americana – roots rock n roll, as listening to their debut album, ”Disappearing Night” reveals.

The album came out in late December 2011, spent several weeks in the Top 20 Best Sellers list at The Record Exchange and, in fact, ”Disappearing NIght” made it into the Ten Top Selling Local Albums of 2012!

The track ”Austin Calling” continues to get airplay on the Treasure Valley’s largest commercial radio station, The River 94.9fm. a.k.a. Belle are highly championed by their morning host, Tim Johnstone, as well as being favorites of Carl Scheider, DJ at (NPR affiliated) KBSU. ”Living Room Radio,” a Friday afternoon show on 89.9fm Radio Boise, listed ’Disappearing Night’ as one of their top albums of the year.

a.k.a. Belle formed in 2008, after Catherine Crooks Merrick (vocals, guitars, banjo) returned home to Boise after several years of living and performing under the moniker Belle
of Les Bois in Manchester, England. She recruited long time accomplice Sam Merrick to play guitar (ex-Hillfolk Noir, The Nymphs, The Leaving Trains). (Yes, they are married.)

No strangers to the music business, each has worked with or supported some famous names (Curtis Stigers; Bill Kirchen; Doug Martsch from Built to Spill; John Doe & Exene Cervenka from LA band X; Iggy Pop; Elizabeth Cook; Holly Golightly, Lydia Loveless…just to name a few)

Current live shows feature Louis McFarland on percussion and Chris Galli on stand up bass; and Kayleigh Jack on violin, vocals and guitar.

Sam and Catherine recently appeared on Boise Song Talk, a local television series showcasing local songwriters who discuss their craft/ songwriting with host James Coberly Smith. http://boisesongtalk.com/

Christmas 2010’s Moxie Java local artist/band compilation includes a.k.a. Belle’s holiday hit, “I’m Giving Mice Elf to You” which has been on permanent rotation on The River’s Morning Show every Christmas since its release.

”For a Fool,” was the inspiration for a stop motion painting/animation video by Boise artist, Shasta Nash. Shasta used the acoustic version of the song (written & recorded in England), which was shown at the 2011 ”208 Music Video Show” and took 1st prize.

The band also took part in a pilot series hosted by John Doe called ”American Music.” a.k.a. Belle served as his backing band (with Catherine duetting) on several songs. http://www.wideeye.tv/original_programming.html

Work on their 2nd album (working title ’The Devil Loves You’), has begun at AudioLab Recording Studios, and the band anticipate its release sometime this spring. The direction is slightly darker, including themes of time travel and urban myths about a serial killer who lives in Boise’s foothills.

    Sleepy Seeds

Sleepy Seeds is a sensitive, melodic, Boise indie rock band. Joey Corsentino and Marty Martin started playing music together in the early 1990′s, in Pueblo, Colorado. In 2009, after several years of toiling, they moved to Boise in search of a legitimate music scene. They soon convinced the legendary Chad Keever to move to Boise as their drummer, and then the locally notorious Will Gillett joined the band to expand the sound. In 2010 Sleepy Seeds played many shows in and around the Boise area. In 2011 they traveled to Portland for a show before embarking on a self-imposed indefinite hiatus. Highlights include headlining the John Denver Tribute Show at Visual Arts Collective, opening for Wye Oak at Flying M CoffeeGarage, and playing at RANCHFEST 2010 and RANCHFEST 2011.

You can catch the four-piece Sleepy Seeds performing on a somewhat regular basis around Boise:

I’ve been living and playing music in Boise for the last 10 years. In 2004 I completed the album Western Wind Western Rain and then toured the East coast and Midwest as an opening act for Built to Spill. I have toured the Northwest with Steve Shelly of Sonic Youth’s side band Two Dollar Guitar. I’ve played in New York City at CBGB’s Gallery, The Freezer, The Living room and at Maxwell’s in Hoboken. Most recently I played two new songs at the Rotating Tongues Music Festival at the Visual Arts Collective in Garden City.

    Hillfolk Noir

Filtered through a half-century of folk, country and rock ‘n’ roll, and fed by family history and an affinity for acoustic mountain music, medicine show culture and Depression-era string-band blues, Hillfolk Noir’s peculiar roots gumbo is, like the carnival midway, at once inviting and foreboding. Look no further than 2008’s ”Diggin’ Songs” — a concept album of toe-tapping songs about grave matters — for proof. Hillfolk Noir’s contribution to this century-old language has been described as a dark, country-tinged, swampy-swingin’, hillbilly-delta-blues-ragtime word machine. Acoustic death-folk works, too. Or Junkerdash, the band’s invented name for its singular sound.

Travis and Ali Ward, the husband-and-wife half of Hillfolk Noir’s touring quartet (also featuring Mike Waite (El Dopamine, Lowbelly) and Jared Goodpastor (Boise Rock School)), grew up in Sandpoint, Idaho, a panhandle county seat near the Canadian border where ghostly echoes of the region’s settlers reverberate off the walls of the valley. “We make the music for ourselves because we love it; we are having a great time and hopefully that is infectious,” Travis says. “Music, especially live music, can be such a powerful experience for all kinds of people. Live music is a shared experience – a series of moments that can really change a person’s day or outlook. That being said, our music seems to strike an emotional chord with many people – perhaps because to pull off this really acoustic old-time sound, we sing and play our guts out. Every song.”

Hillfolk Noir has recently (Dec, 2010) released two new records — both on-location field recordings ”Live at the Old Idaho Penitentiary” is a multi-track recording of an eight-piece band performing live in an old prison block at the historical Old Idaho Penitentiary. ”Skinny Mammy’s Revenge” is a series of recordings made in living rooms and cabins. All of the songs were recorded around a single microphone to analog tape. Other notable projects include the aforementioned ”Diggin’ Songs,” the score to a film (”Ibid”) by Frozen River director/Oscar nominee Heather Rae and Russell Friedenberg, and a monthly DVD video subscription project with the Trey McIntyre Project contemporary dance troupe. This project will be released as a combined CD/DVD by the end of 2011. Hillfolk Noir is also nearing completion of a new record, release details still to come. Hillfolk Noir has performed with James McMurtry, Built to Spill, Bonn ie “Prince” Billy, The Devil Makes Three, Yard Dog Road Show, The Caleb Klauder Band, Gerald Collier, Heroes and Villains, Train, Jesse Dayton, the Dusty 45s, Neva Dinova, Neko Case, Justin Townes Earle, Deer Tick, Gourds, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and tons of other great acts that you may or may not have heard of.

Fly2Void (F2V) resides in Boise, Idaho USA. Their music style fuses rock, groove, melody, pop, …and a little funk! Their unique edgy/melodic music and entertaining live performances has created a strong following in Boise and surrounding areas. Their new album “Take on the World” (released July 2013) was mixed at NRG Studios (Linkin Park) by Jay Baumgardner (Sevendust) in Hollywood, CA. Mastered by Tom Baker (Beastie Boys). The album shows the true musical realm of the band’s music and influences. “We poured our musical hearts and souls into this record. We wanted to give our fans, new listeners, and ourselves, the most honest/rockin’/groovin’ musical playlist that we possibly could. Take on the World is definitely an album that wraps up what Fly2Void is all about (musically and personally). The album is dedicated to our children. a.k.a.

These gigs have included opening for touring acts Mike Watt, Starfucker, and the BellRays. Our full-length album, Dreams of the Dying, Light of the Living, was produced, recorded, and mixed by Faust member Steven Wray Lobdell (who recorded Built to Spill’s You In Reverse, as well as some of Modest Mouse’s latest album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank) at Audible Alchemy in Portland, Oregon.
Influences include classic rock ranging from the Beatles and Pink Floyd to the Grateful Dead—as well as 90’s indie acts Ween, Flaming Lips, and Super Furry Animals—with some Tex Ritter, Woody Guthrie, and Miles Davis thrown in for good measure.

After moving to Boise in 2001 mayerforceone added members and underwent many changes. In 2007, mayerforceone began working on a recording with members of the Portland bands, Point Juncture WA, Bazillionaire, and Andy Combs. They helped with engineering and backing up a slew of new pop songs. As the recording project moved along, the need to reproduce the recording, on stage, required the formation of a live band. the mayerforceone academy of arts and sciences, is the latest incarnation featuring Caleb and Tori McKim, Scott and Kate Seward, Shaun King, and Trevor Kamplaign (ATTN).
